Cost
[edit]If someone finds more information about the cost it would be interesting to include it. --Vasilis Theofylaktopoulos (talk) 14:37, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
Contested deletion
[edit]This article should not be speedy deleted because its an important part of the JWST program and will be expanded. Patience... Fotaun (talk)
Hi @Fotaun: you must not remove the tag yourself. thank you. --Domdeparis (talk) 08:55, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
Readability
[edit]Awhile back this was tagged as being too technical, and while I personally tried to take some steps to make it easier to read hopefully in the future it can be "translated" so its more easy to understand. Fotaun (talk) 17:17, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
- Much more readable now! Good job! Domdeparis (talk) 17:49, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
- This reads like it was written by a 9 year old now. It's embarrassing and unencyclopaedic. 131.251.254.154 (talk) 15:55, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
This article still has many readability issues and just doesn't make a lot of sense. Why does it exist?
[edit]Seriously, many people will be looking at this article closer to launch and it still has a lot of issues. At least the main article is really good. Shouldn't this information be consolidated into a subsection of the main JWST article? If it shouldn't be, this article still needs intense editing.

Check numbers related to area, power received and passed by the sunshield
[edit]Some numbers are in error. The sunshield is 21m x 14m; its (diamond shaped) area is therefore about 150 squared meters. The given powers are incorrect as well. The solar constant is about 1.4 kW/m2, so "it will receive about ***200*** kilowatts of solar radiation". Reference [5] http://www.stsci.edu/jwst/overview/design/sunshield is a broken link. Check "will pass 23? milliwatts to the other side" as this number also seem in error. Marmetlouis (talk) 19:03, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
Emissivity
[edit]We need an explanation as to why the colour of the shield facing the sun is not silver but dark, if not black. I believe that this is because of the high emissivity of black and am assuming that the inside colour of the first sheet is silver, which having a low emissivity will not transmit heat to the second sheet. This is counterintuitive, most people would assume a reflective surface not an absorbing one. I don’t feel confident to write this up; I wonder if somebody else might articulate it better than I. A tiny suggestion
[edit]I just wanted to give a commonplace suggestion for the "Timeline" section: 800,000 km (500,000 mi) instead of 0.8 million kilometers (500,000 mi). – Hamid Hassani (talk) 21:31, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
