Difficult finding good free-use photos of this dude. Heres a good one from NIU Business: https://www.flickr.com/photos/niucollegeofbusiness/4636157998

I asked if they would free-use it, will see. Colinrgodsey (talk) 16:20, 2 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

[edit]

I feel like we should refrain from using # of locations here- that number already seems to be updated occasionally in the franchise article, not necessary to have to update it here.

Proposing: James "Jimmy" John Liautaud (January 12, 1964) is the founder, chairman, and majority owner of Jimmy John’s sandwich chain, a restaurant franchise with locations throughout the continental United States.

Could only require 2 changes in the future for the last 2 states (i think even hawaii has one now). Even then, this lead content might be a little too temporal. 'Major national restaurant franchise' might do just fine. Colinrgodsey (talk) 16:20, 2 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Discuss claims on how this article may read like an advertisement.

Advert tag was added without discussion or comment. Colinrgodsey (talk) 18:27, 2 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If no discussions occurs, I may WP:BRD and remove this. While this tag was bold, I feel the addition of the autobiography on this dude really helps clean up the separation of personal and corporate detail and gives us a great way to make sure this article on James himself cannot as easily cary any sort of 'advertising' appeal to the Jimmy Johns franchise itself. I believe 100% that is the most correct and removed way to handle the collision of information in the Jimmy Johns article. I am probably one of the most random people to be doing this, and besides lazily consuming fast food, i have 0 connection to these people or organization. My handle is my real birth name and I welcome all probes into my intention. My personal motivation for this article was that I found almost no (reliable) biographical information on this guy on wikipedia, and the jimmy johns article seemed to be polluted with attempted aggregation of information on both the company and the owner. As a former Illinois resident, I was intrigued at finding out information about just normal business guy in the state. VERY QUICK SEARCHES on the Internet revealed far more reputable, reliable and recent information than what wikipedia was providing. With the amount of news articles about the dude, seemed right to separate it out. User:Retiredstrategist was kind enough to aggregate the personal information and put it in the article, all of it seems like the normal boiler-plate one would expect to find on any notable person- personal life and history, and provides the answers to my biographical questions. I do entirely fail to see how this might be an advert.Colinrgodsey (talk) 23:37, 2 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

notability

[edit]

Discuss claims on subject notability.

Considering removing notability. Sources are mostly from news sources- the Jimmy Johns page itself relies on shaky self-published sources from the corporate website, reads like an advertisement, and subject matter is inconsistent and often contended. This biography relies on updated, reputable and removed 3rd party sources, and solves much of the contention present in the corporate Jimmy Johns page. Restaurant career

[edit]

Some of this is unneeded crossover from the corporate history, some of it also reads more as a view of James from the Jimmy John's perspective. Im not sure how to fix it though, some opinion from a more experienced editor would be great. Colinrgodsey (talk) 14:04, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

James John LiautaudJimmy John Liautaud – Per WP:COMMONNAME, Jimmy John Liautaud is the name that is used in almost all references. I followed the directions above to just make the change myself for uncontroversial moves, but it was reverted for unknown reasons by Slashme (talk · contribs). Per his/her intructions, I am now going through official channels to make this necessary change. – 185.54.163.152 (talk) 11:39, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Slashme (talk) 11:41, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: I reverted the cut-and-paste move. I have no opinion either way on whether the article should be moved, but if it should, it should be done correctly. --Slashme (talk) 11:41, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Question: Hi User:Slashme - given that it has now been 7 days, and no dissenting votes have been cast, could you please advise on what the next step here is? I'd make the move myself, but as I showed last time, I seem to be too new to do this correctly. Could you please facilitate the move? Thanks in advance for your help / input! 185.54.163.155 (talk) 09:26, 28 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Give it a day or so: the request is uncontroversial, and will now move into the "elapsed listings" section of the Requested Moves list. An admin will then come along in due course and sort things out. --Slashme (talk) 11:05, 28 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Big Game Trophy hunting

[edit]

The section on his big game trophy hunting seems to have a serious inconsistency. He says in the interview that the controversial photo in question (of him with a black rhino cow trophy) is 10 years old; however, all records of the event (which resulted in a legal battle betwean the Namibia government and the hunting outfitter) indicate the hunt took place on September 28, 2013. This is far more recent than 10 years ago. This needs to be addressed. --Robert Wm "Ruedii" (talk) 22:47, 21 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

How is this section on Liautaud's hunting practices and the media's subsequent criticism of his actions not categorized as "Controversy," as is typical of other Wikipedia pages? Also, this section on Liautaud's hunting practices seems to be incredibly biased, speaking in his defense rather than informing the public of the facts in an objective way. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2606:A000:8CC0:5D00:74DF:43AE:D4A7:5713 (talk) 16:22, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The 'Chance Encounter in a Sandwich Shop'?

[edit]

The chance encounter was my restaurant called Yogy's Hoagies first located just off the square in downtown Charleston, Illinois that I founded in 1981, a year before the first Jimmy Johns. I still have one of my original menues. Had I known the industry was going to be as big as it is now, I wouldn't have sold it in late 1982 to someone who folded up shop a few years later, and there would be a Yogy's Hoagies in every town today. 104.251.245.49 (talk) 02:26, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
