Plantations
[edit]Gov James Hamilton co-owned 15 plantations with John Couper of Cannon Point, St Simons Island, Ga (esp famous for his library of 25,000 volumes (later donated to Library of Congress and becoming its "core volumes") and his advantages in agriculture); many on the rivers of south Georgia; later, these were sold to the Dodge Trust (of NYC) and esp used for timber including for NYC, NY
Gov Hamilton only had one daughter; John Couper named one of his sons James Hamilton Couper (Major in Civil War , sometimes of Atlanta) who managed Hopeton Plantation of South Georgia located on U.S. 17 near the Altamaha River, Glynn County, Ga - a larger rice and sugar plantation with 800 slaves with James Hamilton Couper, famous like his father for agricultural advances. Ref: Hopeton Plantation
- footnote- this Couper family are the ancestors of General, RKO director - Merian C. Cooper esp famous for creating and directing King Kong.
- 2nd footnote- this Couper and esp the Dodge family and St Simon's Island are the backdrop for famous "Savannah Quartet of Historical Novels by Eugenia Price

Time as governor
[edit]I came to learn more about his pro-slavery activitied as governor. This article says nothing about his time in that office. How odd. Paul, in Saudi (talk) 11:01, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
