Compressed air caissons
[edit]These had been used on a number of projects prior to the Missssippi bridge: Eiffel used them for his bridge over the Garonne at Bordeaux (1858-60), and one of my sources on Eiffel gives a first use in bridge-building as 1851, by Cubitt at Rochester (Kent, England) in 1851. Eads may have been the first to usethe technique in the US?. Given this erroneous claim, I've stuck a cite tag on the first use of cantilever construction claim.TheLongTone (talk) 10:52, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

Bridges named after their constructor
[edit]The article "The Eads Bridge is the only bridge to be named for its engineer." Wrong. In USA - maybe, but not in the world. See Paton Bridge. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.198.116.10 (talk) 18:09, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
And yes, the feral Ponte Morandi in Genoa was also named after its designer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.198.116.10 (talk) 19:31, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
