Death date? (~1850 versus November 1861)

[edit]

The sources I've come across tell the story of a violent death around 1850. However, an anonymous editor has claimed this is just a legend, and he actually died in 1861 of natural causes, mentioning probate records in Sacramento county, but without the specific record. I looked up what was available online, and there is indeed a death of "James Boisclair" recorded in 1861. But a full citation is needed. Does the full probate record make clear the 1861 death is the same James Boisclair who owned the Georgia mine, or is the editor drawing their own conclusions? It seems like a match, but it could also be his son, for example. Better to avoid WP:OR, so a third party source would be better than citing court records directly, if possible. 〈 Forbes72 | Talk 〉 06:31, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Update - I think the source for the later date is a personal research project at [1], specifically some unpublished notes [2]. The guy has been spreading the word about the theory, even uploaded an image of the probate document on another blog [3]. Interesting, but unless this is published somewhere, this looks like original research to me. IP editor, we can update the article if you do overturn the current historical consensus, but not before. 〈 Forbes72 | Talk 〉 06:58, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
