Need for update on traditional owners

[edit]

Per recent change and reversion about the traditional owners of Brisbane, (beaten to it by Kerry!), a very quick google returned this - almost certainly not the best source, but perhaps one that can lead to others which clarify the current situation, and used to update both articles. Missing sources

[edit]

this page misses so many sources. for example the Notable persons section. the top names listed are fine like this. but my problem is with the majority of the other names. aunty or uncle "so and so", why are they listed as notable people? what did they do to urn this. what makes this "notable" person better than their peers. Being the child/ parent/ friend of someone who is important, does not make this person in extend also noteworthy.2A02:A44E:4D59:1:E98B:FFEE:1FD6:D1DD (talk) 20:32, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The notable people are all cited, but I have added an additional note to explain those three. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 03:01, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Language

[edit]

Hello all

I have added content to briefly explain that there are different views about the relationship between the Yuggera and Turrbal languages. Otherwise those reading this in conjunction with the Turrbal article are likely to be as confused as I was. The account of the words Meanjin, Miguntyun, Megandsin and Makandschin did not reflect the cited sources. I have replaced it with content which is more reliably sourced. I have also added three works to the works cited section.

Country

[edit]

Hello all

I have tried to make the various alternative spellings and names used for Aboriginal peoples less confusing by consistently using the words Jagera and Turrbal unless quoting a specific source which uses a different word/spelling. In that case I have put the alternative usage in quotes followed by (Jagera) or (Turrbal) to make it clear which language/people we are talking about. I have also replaced some unsourced or inadequately sourced content with content which more accurately reflects the reliable sources.

Jagera and Turrbal in lead

[edit]

Hello all

I have added a sentence about the Jagera and Turrbal debate in the lead. It is important to mention this upfront because otherwise people who read this article and the one on the Turrbal are likely to be very confused. I certainly was when I stumbled across these articles.
