Research and Impact
Jacqueline Barton is an amazing chemist and person, I felt she deserved the credit and the acknowledgement of some of her achievements that were not thoroughly identified. The first change I made was to her overview, which I amended her credentials to be more wholesome. Secondly, I thought it was important to distinguish her academic career at Barnard College as a summa cum laude recipient to demonstrate her intelligence and hard work, as well as praise her for the admirable accomplishment. These changes were important to me from a neutral stand point because if I had achieved something to the magnitude in which Barton did, I would desire credit.
I added a whole new section, titled “Research”, to Barton’s Wikipedia page. As a student of women and gender I thought that is was necessary to present the impact of Barton’s work to the scientific community. All of the stated information was on a personal level and objective claims, such as schooling history, becoming a teacher and research she was working on. In the added section I identified Barton’s research briefly, and assessed how it was a major contributor to the way in which use science today. This was an important highlight to me base on my WGS point of view because it brings the work of Barton into full view. Barton deserves to be recognized as someone who has impacted the scientific community through her hard work and discovery. The amendment I made provides depth to the Barton Wikipedia page to show her as not just as an admirable person in the scientific community, but an important person as well.
