Redundent link
[edit]Second phrase in "Biography": He became sacristan of Maerlant, in the island of Oostvoorne, where he lived for some time, employed as a sexton, whence his surname "de Coster". The link of "Maerlant" just redirects to this article and is thus redundent. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:1810:1E27:3300:3557:780B:F676:D38A (talk) 14:57, 9 September 2017 (UTC)

Name
[edit]Please note that "van Maerlant" is not a surname. The poet's name is "Jacob" and he comes from Maerlant. So if you don't want to use the full name form, "Jacob van Maerlant", you can shorten it to "Jacob", but never to "Maerlant". For the same reason, he should be alphabetized under J, not under M. This is the same with all medieval authors with this kind of name structure: Geoffrey of Monmouth, Gottfried von Strasburg. These names only become surnames like in Ludwig van Beethoven after the Renaissance. --Doric Loon (talk) 09:44, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
