I've fixed the error you stated below, thanks!

72.151.144.202 16:54, 21 August 2006 (UTC)by Linda J. Higgins Issac Burton Tigrett did not start a Toy Factory in Jackson -- it was John Burton Tigrett, who was a nephew of Issac B. Tigrett, President of the Gulf Mobile and Ohio railroad and lived in Jackson. There was no Issac Burton Tigrett Sr. and Issac and his wife did not have children. Issac Burton Tigrett was the originator of Hard Rock Cafes and he did indeed open the first one here in Jackson at his mother's development, the Old Hickory Mall. He did it primarily to incorporate the business in Tennessee first before taking it to other towns and countries. John Burton Tigrett married Frances Tomlin, another old and prominent family name in Jackson. John and Frances had two or three boys, one of whom was Issac Burton Tigrett. They divorced in the 1960s (I believe that date is correct.) He married Pat Kerr, a native of Savannah, Tennessee who had made a name for herself in Memphis as a model and artist. They had one son, Kerr Tigrett. John Tigrett was responsible for the building of the Pyramid in Memphis. He is deceased now. He wrote his autobiography and it was published before he died.[reply]

Someone should find out how big the Jackson Metropolitan Area is.

I can't answer your question about leaving the ad intact here (because I am not well-versed in wikipedia protocol for Talk pages), but if you want to avoid the addition of increasing numbers of trivial links, you could add the following string to the external links section of the article: *{{dmoz|Regional/North_America/United_States/Tennessee/Localities/J/Jackson|Jackson}}
That string will generate a link to the Open Directory Project page http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Tennessee/Localities/J/Jackson/ --orlady 02:11, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry If I am doing this wrong, I am new to Wikipedia editing, but in the first section, it says The Diamond Jaxx are the Minor League team of the Chicago Cubs and me being the number one Cubs fan on here know that is wrong. The Cubs dropped them during the winter of 2006. Their new parent team is the Seatlle Mariners. I tried to edit it, but did not know how. If someone could edit it, please do so. Thanks you. -Cubsfan97-

Education

[edit]

Is it St. Mary's, or Sacred Heart of Jesus, or both? The article is unclear on how many of these Catholic schools there are. --Orange Mike 20:40, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There are two. St. Mary's is the K-8 and SHJ is the high school. Thanks for updating our Jackson page! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.4.55.12 (talk) 11:56, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Google search: ranking

[edit]

A Google search on Tennessee "seventh largest city" reveals this city as their answer, influenced by what this article said until I just edited it. I needed to alter it so that Google won't take it as such. Any thoughts?? Georgia guy (talk) 16:01, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

According to the 2010 census and 2012 estimates for each city, Jackson continued to be larger than Franklin, TN, so it seems inappropriate to change the ranking.Parkwells (talk) 23:04, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As of the 2016 census estimate for each city, Franklin has surpassed Jackson for seventh place.Parkwells (talk) 22:53, 11 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Integrate railroad history

[edit]

Development of the railroads was so important to Jackson's economy that it seems this info should be integrated into the historic/economy sections. Otherwise you have to read back or ahead, wondering what was going on and how the city developed.Parkwells (talk) 23:04, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment comment

[edit]

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Jackson, Tennessee/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

==Importance==

High importance. One of the bigger cities in Tennessee. The topic can be reasonably expected to be found in a prited encyclopedia.

I dunno, I wouldn't say it's well known outside TN and it's the sixth biggest city. It fits the mid category better to me --AW 15:22, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

==Quality== Start class. The article is structured, this encourages to add information to the article. An image is used to illustrate the topic in the history section. An additional contemporary image could improve the quality. However, more sources are needed to verify the information given.

Clear language is used most of the time. In the History section, it should be avoided to start all but the first paragraph with "Jackson was ..." or similar. Try and be creative, just re-work the sentences to avoid repetition. Sub-headers in the history section could aslo improve readability and make it easier to find the relevant information.
