Original research

[edit]

I once visited Mr. Levine in his studio in the early 90s. He was very engaging and helpful. He said he didn't think Mary Cassatt was a great master, because she preferred shallow space and didn't paint deep space, and all the old masters did. Well, it's just original research, but I'm glad to have spent a few hours with him. Great artist. JNW (talk) 22:00, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was sorry to read about this. I thought he was gonna live forever...Modernist (talk) 22:09, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Adding more scholarship

[edit]

As an art historian, I can attest that the information on this page is relevant and accurate. However, there's only one source (the book by Frankel published in 1989) that's been cited throughout the page. I have several other books and other articles on Levine that are more recently published. When I have some time, I will work on updating this article so it reflects more scholarly and art historical perspectives.

I've included more sources and organized the page with headers for more clarity. It still could use some additional structure and organization, as well as more information about Levine's personal style. Ideally, this page should reflect the extensive scholarship within the Hyman Bloom page.
