@Mountaincirque: reverted this edit with the comment "Not being related to someone else is not a notable inclusion, he's not related to most people, if he was related then it would be mentioned in the text." Not being related to someone may be notable if there is a likelihood of many people suspecting the contrary, which is often the case if two people in similar fields have the same unusual surname. The Feroze Gandhi and Mark Kermode articles mention their non-relation to Mahatma Gandhi and Frank Kermode. People are asking the question: Google "Tony Grealish" "Jack Grealish" related The cited reference feels the non-relation is notable; it begins "No relation to Tony. 'I've been asked that before, but no, nothing,' the Ireland Under-21 star laughs.". The claim that "if he was related then it would be mentioned in the text" would be true if the article was of Featured standard; otherwise the omission might equally be due to the article's incompleteness. And even if it were of Featured standard, the average reader, who has no knowledge whatsoever of Wikipedia's editorial policies, might come to the article precisely to find the answer to that question; finding no answer might make them suspect the answer is no, but would hardly give them certainty. jnestorius(talk) 14:16, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Jnestorius: I should have sent you a note first maybe, sorry, I'm happy for you to re-instate if you feel it's relevant. A few points, the note on his non-relationship with Tony Grealish was in the wrong section, it's not part of his international career really, it should be 'personal life' if anything. Tony Grealish, while having a decent number of international caps (45), he seems to have only played three seasons in the top flight of English football for Brighton, WBA and Man City, he was relegated in all three campaigns. My opinion is that he just is not particularly well known enough to be mentioned in this article? Mountaincirque 15:48, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Tony is probably not well known to young people in England, but he was the Republic's captain for several years so is well remembered there. Given that Jack has declared for Ireland, a lot of people reading this article will have heard of Tony. If Jack goes on to become a global superstar, the no-relation info would be better put in the Tony article, but IMO Jack is not there yet. jnestorius(talk) 21:53, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, do feel free to revert my edit if you see fit. All the best, Mountaincirque 08:17, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a "Background" section, not sure if that's the best title for it. jnestorius(talk) 10:19, 21 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There is information about Grealish's family that is in reliable local sources and has come to attention now due to some unspeakable abuse towards him on the Internet. In the early life section, add:

"Grealish's younger brother, Keelan, died of sudden infant death syndrome in April 2000 at the age of nine months.[1]" 79.74.163.80 (talk) 21:28, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Diving

[edit]

Can someone please add a reference in the style of play section that Grealish has a reputation for diving, it's a key part of his style and linked to the enormous number of fouls committed against him — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.146.31.62 (talk) 09:51, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Playing for England or Ireland

[edit]

Clears up some of the confusion surrounding his choice to play for England: https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/international/england-jack-grealish-aston-villa-international-latest-news-b916848.html

“I woke up in the middle of the night, I went to go to the toilet and then my room-mate - who was Diego Poyet, Gus Poyet’s son - he heard a bang and then I just woke up in the bathroom,” he recalls. “I didn’t want to go home the following day, but England said they thought it was best that I did. From then on, I went to play for Ireland through the youth levels and I played for them because of how much I enjoyed it.”

Grealish always felt a strong affinity with Ireland, qualifying through not just one but three of his grandparents and he spent much of his youth in Solihull playing gaelic football, but things change.

“As I got older I realised I am English, my family is English and in the future that’s what I want to do,” he says. “I want to play for England and I’m just so grateful and thankful to the manager for making it happen. I want to be in the squad now for the next however long - five, six years - and I want to have a long England career and get many caps.”

Jack Grealish's portrait

[edit]

I think that we should change Grealish's portrait on the article. His current image is both outdated(from 2014!) and unclear(Grealish's face is nearly impossible to see clearly). Considering Jack Grealish is a high profile player he should be worthy of a change, and finding a better portrait shouldn't be so hard. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:647:6080:4FC0:1091:85FF:AF18:8C5 (talk) 17:39, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

While I don't disagree about updating the photo, it's not necessarily that easy; we must find an image that is compatible with our image use policy (primarily from a copyright point-of-view). There are a few photos of Grealish on Wikimedia Commons at Commons:Category:Jack_Grealish, including one from last year, but the current one looks to be the best we have... Criminal charges

[edit]

He’s been convicted of driving dangerously, fined and banned so can we have a section to mention this? Don’t see why he should be able to have a squeaky clean page when others who have done similar things don’t. Bananawaffler (talk) 22:20, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

At the end of the international career section, it states Grealish made two assists in the game against Germany on June 29th. This is not true; he passed to Shaw who provided the assist for Sterling for goal one. He only assisted goal two with a pinpoint cross to Kane.

Error

[edit]

The "Criticism" section of the Jack Grealish wikipedia page refers to former West Brom defender Matthew Upson. This is incorrect - he is a former West Ham player.

Disallowed goal

[edit]

"He was booked for a dive against Crystal Palace, which led to an equalising goal from Villa being disallowed."

As he was going down, it was his pass to Henri Lansbury. I just thought that's an important detail which should be mentioned, but i can't think of a good way to word it. Hevernon (talk) 16:59, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You have Grealish listed as 5'9 and Bernardo as 5'8 even though its obvious the height gap is bigger than that on this picture. Change Grealish to 5'11

https://uk.sports.yahoo.com/news/jack-grealish-took-time-settle-213044465.html

Thats the link of Grealish amd Bernardo together. Additionally EA Sports have Grealish listed as 5'11 https://www.ea.com/en/games/ea-sports-fc/ratings/player-ratings/jack-grealish/206517

Also here's a picture of Grealish next to 5'11 Sancho and 5'11 Mason Mount. https://www.alamy.com/englands-from-left-to-right-mason-mount-jadon-sancho-and-jack-grealish-line-up-before-the-international-friendly-at-wembley-stadium-london-image385145832.html
