This section has been removed from the current version of the entry; yet some/most of its claims can be found on Estonian and German wikis. Thus, I believe it is worthwhile to keep this fragment here until verifiable proof-links can be found in support of this info:

Jaan Valsiner began his studies in [[Tallinn University|Tallinn Pedagogical Institute]] (majoring in English) in 1969-1971, and continued then his studies at the Department of Psychology of [[Tartu University]] in the area of [[psycholinguistics]] and communication. In 1976 he defended his thesis "The connections between physiological, cognitive and interactive factors in early human [[ontogeny]]", followed by doctoral dissertation in psychology titled "The mechanisms of faces and face expression recognition" in 1979. Graduated from Tartu University in 1976. From April to October, 1980 he got a position as a [[Visiting Professor]] (then, an [[Assistant Professor]]) at the [[Justus Liebig University]] in [[Giessen]], [[Hesse]], [[Germany]]; then he moved to the United States where got employed in [[University of Minnesota]], [[Minneapolis]] in 1980-1981, and [[University of North Carolina]] in [[Chapel Hill]] in 1981-1997. Since 1988 Valsiner is the citizen of the United States.
