Does it not work on GNU/Linux?

[edit]

This sounds like a useful application, but the article says it only works on MS Windows. Could anyone elaborate in the article on why it is not available for other platforms such as GNU/Linux? Thanks. --Gronky (talk) 17:33, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm guessing because it uses Windows libraries for such things as displaying graphics, and nobody has bothered to port it to using another library such as Qt or Gtk. And I can imagine that part of the reason for that is so that it works easily on PDAs, without having to install Qt/Gtk/whatever first (since their memory is a bit more constrained) -- and because the program was intended to scratch the author's itch, which was MS-Windows. Feel free to fork, since it's GPL. -- pne (talk) 13:33, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Platforms

[edit]

JWPce runs fine under Windows Vista 64 as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.212.87.158 (talk) 22:20, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Downloads section

[edit]

This section is completely redundant. Someone undid my edit when I removed it, so now I will now explain the reasons in greater detail, one by one, by quoting the text of the paragraph as it currently stands.

The current version of JWPce is version 1.50

Already stated in the infobox. No need to have the information in two places, which may became inconsistent.

which supports hiragana, katakana, kanji and rōmaji.

If it didn't support this (writing Japanese), it wouldn't be a Japanese-language word processor.

Since the file is open source, it is possible to download and share this file freely and install it on an unlimited number of machines.

We have already said several times that it is free software and licensed under the GPL and wikilinked those terms. Why have this incomplete and redundant explanation of a single aspect of the license? It's no different from any other GPL-licensed software.

Below is a download link which installs the full program including the latest dictionaries and manuals as part of the setup file.

The referenced file is not the official distribution. (Also, what is below will become apparent when the reader gets there.)

It supports Windows 98/NT/2000 and XP.

Already explained in greater detail in the previous section.

End of section. Since there is nothing left when the above is corrected, I'm removing it in its entirety. 81.236.0.142 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:26, 7 May 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Word Processor vs Text Editor

[edit]

Wouldn't it be more accurate to call this a Text Editor? Word Processors allow you to use formatting and many other features. Since JWPCE doesn't allow you to format your words, it is just a glorified text editor with lots of simple features that are good for English speaking people that want to write in Japanese. - Rolen47 (talk) 15:35, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be fine with that change. Exploding Boy (talk) 16:12, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, and I’ve made the change now. -- pne (talk) 07:00, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
