Some Confusion of Facts re Funding by German aid project (CNN Article slightly mistaken)
[edit]hello, I don't want to go editing anything about this, especially since I too am rather confused by or unclear about the fact below; so hopefully the original editors will verify facts and then make the corrections as required.
This is about some changes made by on 6 September 2009 by user "69.122.181.88", changes with cited this CNN article: http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/09/01/sri.lanka.journalist/ This CNN article says: "... edited OutreachSL, a Web site geared toward the country's Tamil population. Prosecutors charged Tissainayagam with taking money from the Tamil Tiger rebels to fund the Web site. The site was, in fact, funded by a German aid project, Reporters Without Borders said."
Firstly, note that CNN says that the WEB SITE was funded by a German aid project. It DOESN'T say that the "Monthly Publication" in question, was thus funded.
Secondly, The CNN article itself is mistaken, as far as I know, in saying that Prosecutors charged him with taking money from... to fund the WEB SITE; no, instead, one the charges involved money for the MONTHLY PUBLICATION.
Pls don't misconstrue my input: I'm just trying to ensure that this Wikipedia article correctly reflects the exact and complete position; it is good that people are trying to maintain this article and keep it up to date.
For your information: I can't locate and provide sources immediately, for the following, but as my memory serves me these are the actual facts which have got a little jumbled up and distorted in the CNN article and in 69.122.181.88's editing:
- when this gentleman was first taken into detention, and during the approx 5 months of not being charged, there was much public speculation, including speculation in the media, that the reason for his detention was something related to money used for this web site; and then it transpired, that money was from some German project which in turn had strong connections to the German "G.T.Z.".
- It is therefore correct, as I recall, that this WEB SITE was indeed funded by a German project, a harmless innocent and responsible project.
- There may or may not have been a period of time during which the official charges did include some mention of the web site; I do not remember clearly. However I have almost no doubt that the FINAL draft ("draft" or whatever it is called) of the charges did not include anything about the web site; only about the monthly publication.
Hope this helps. 124.43.148.252 (talk) 11:29, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
Why is this under "dispute resolution"?
[edit]Why is this article under editorial restrictions "following a dispute resolution consensus"? Because I don't see anything controversial or contradictory in most of the history (except perhaps the joker who changed the nationality of this journalist). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.43.61.31 (talk) 11:21, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
