My research indicates that he left the Labor Department and Eisenhower administration because he sought a judicial appointment or position within the Department of Justice, not that he had a 'falling out' with the administration. Keshik (talk) 16:19, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
According to multiple RS, Labor Secretary James Mitchell wanted to get rid of Wilkins starting in 1957, possibly because Wilkins wanted to present a position paper at the 1958 ILO meeting taking a stand on racial issues that Mitchell disliked. Wilkins faced increasing pressure and humiliation from Mitchell but refused to resign until after he had a chance to present his case to President Eisenhower. They met, at a meeting which Ike had scheduled to last 13 minutes. Ike stood firm on Mitchell's right to choose his own team. Finally Wilkins resigned. I changed the article's uncited claim that Ike "dismissed" Wilkins. There are multiple RS for his resignation. HouseOfChange (talk) 02:54, 21 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
