Hi, I will be reviewing this article for the June GA Backlog drive. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 18:28, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
- It is reasonably well written.
- a (prose, spelling, and grammar): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
- Overall, prose seems strong and adequate for GA. I have a few pieces of feedback and questions; see below. Forgive my pickyness in place, but that's an indication of the strength of the prose. I also did a couple of copyedits; please revert they're incorrect or if you disagree with them.
- a (prose, spelling, and grammar): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
- It is factually accurate and verifiable.
- a (reference section): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR): d (copyvio and plagiarism):
- I only randomly checked a few refs, but they seem fine.
- a (reference section): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR): d (copyvio and plagiarism):
- It is broad in its coverage.
- a (major aspects): b (focused):
- As a non-fan, it's hard for me to say if this bio is broad and focused enough. I suggest that you have another baseball expert take a look at it for that.
- a (major aspects): b (focused):
- It follows the neutral point of view policy.
- Fair representation without bias:
- Nice job; no overly fan/peacocky language.
- Fair representation without bias:
- It is stable.
- No edit wars, etc.:
- No apparent edit warring here.
- No edit wars, etc.:
- It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.
- a (images are tagged and non-free content have non-free use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
- Only image is in the infobox. Question: is it normal practice to include images of players' stadiums or playing field in their bios? If so, would it be appropriate to do that? I trust that you're making the appropriate decision to include the one image, though, so I won't require it for this GAN.
- a (images are tagged and non-free content have non-free use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
- Overall:
- Pass/Fail:
- Nice effort, strong bio, fun to read.
- Pass/Fail:
Prose
College career:
- 1st sentence: ...he struggled to hit the ball.' I don't know much about baseball, but I'm pretty sure this phrase means Hammer didn't do well as a hitter. It's a bit unclear to those of us stupid about baseball, so could you clarify?
- Speaking of, I suggest that you look for jargon, which can plague sports articles. I'll try and look for it myself, but as a non-fan, I'm sure to miss some uses. There's going to some, so please make sure that there are links, something else I wouldn't notice.
- 2nd sentence: the phrase in relief needs to be explained or linked. Could "ERA" also be linked?
- Possibly a really stupid question: Do college baseball seasons have individual articles? If so, they should be linked here, as in "2016 college baseball season".
Philadelphia Phillies:
- 3rd paragraph, 2nd sentence: The phrase "by retiring" is unclear. I assume that it means that he struck the three hitters out, but could you clarify?
Second stint with Colorado:
- Last sentence: To my eye, there doesn't seem to ba a space between "Triple-A" and "Albuquerque". It could be just me, but if not, could you put a non-breaking space in-between them?
You're very close. Take care of the picky comments and I'll gladly pass this to GA. Best, Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 22:15, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
- User:GhostRiver, it's been a few weeks since this review. If there's no response in 7 days (18 July), I will regretfully have to fail this GAN. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 18:57, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Christine. I noticed this review hanging out, and since it seems so close to GA status, I tried to address your feedback. I think I have addressed all of it. On the issue of retiring a batter, it's not necessarily getting a strikeout, but any kind of out. I noticed that in two places, so I added the wikilink to out for the first instance and reworded the second one.
- Good call on linking the college baseball seasons. I had not thought of doing that before, but for NCAA Division I teams, there are links like 2015 NCAA Division I baseball season. I'd be happy to clear up any other concerns. Larry Hockett (Talk) 21:42, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Larry Hockett, I had forgotten about it, so it's good that you took in on and completed it. I think that now with the changes you made, I can pass this article to GA, and will do so now. Thanks, Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 23:49, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
