Gubijan was born in the town of Bjelovar, but this was before it was an independent state. Note that "After WWII he came to Belgrade and joined the athletic club Partizan." (http://glassrbije.org/E/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5741&Itemid=30)

He was an ethnic Serb who happened to be born in Bjelovar who competed for Yugoslavia and remained in the Republic of Serbia long after Croatian independence, so to describe him as Croatian is inaccurate. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 11:26, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I can't find a reference about Gubijan being an ethnic Serb. His move to Belgrade is not really significant in this respect; Stjepan Bobek and Franjo Mihalić moved too. Even if he was a Serb, that is of no significance; Gubijan was born and lived for the first 20 or so years of his life in what is today Croatia, even winning the Croatian Championships before the WWII,[1] which (also) makes him a Croatian athlete - therefore, I'm restoring WP Croatia (of course, relevance for WP Yugoslavia is beyond dispute).
