misleading
[edit]Davis was coached by Horowitz. Davis played for him once a week and they had a good relationship. The remark that Horowitz refused to acknowledge him as a pupil is misleading at best. See Plaskin bio for confirmation.Malikf 04:13, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
- I've read and own a copy of the Plaskin bio. For whatever reason, Horowitz refused to aknowledge Ivan Davis as a pupil. Therefore, Horowitz's refusal should be noted. Long after Davis stopped working with Davis, Horowitz stated he had only three pupils, Byron Janis, Gary Graffman, and Ronald Turini. This is noted in the Plaskin bio and is not misleading.THD3 22:43, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
This is a complete twisting of the meaning. Horowitz's acknowledgment of only three students was meant to separate Horowitz from those students whom he did not get along with and soon dropped so that they could not take advantage of their association with him to advance their careers. Ivan Davis was not among that group that Horowitz disowned. His not calling Davis a student was in fact a compliment in that Horowitz considered Davis a nearly finished artist when they began working together. The way you put it makes it sound like Horowitz disowned Davis as a student, which is not the case at all. Malikf 18:03, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- The latest revision (using the phrase "played regularly") is a good compromise between calling Davis a Horowitz pupil and the initial revision I made.THD3 22:10, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
