Исполин is the Russian word for "giant", probably derived from the ethnonym Spali. I suspect the page should simply redirect to giant. --Ghirla-трёп- 17:23, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- I'm aware of that, that's why I created the article at Ispolin (Bulgarian mythology), not at Ispolin. There is no reason to redirect the article to giant, seeing as there are articles on the Greek gigantes, the Norse jötnar, the Hindu daityas, etc. We should probably make Ispolin a disambiguation page, if there's no particular mythology associated to the Russian word, it may point to giant, like that:
“ | Ispolin may refer to:
|
” |
I sort of wanted to keep the Bulgarian mythology treatment of ispolin separate because I doubt it would be very close to the Russian legends of giants tied to that word, if there are any. I mean, at 3k+ bytes, it's well-deserving of a separate piece.
P.S. Can you find a source for the spali etymology? That would be an interesting addition in any case. Best, Todor→Bozhinov 17:44, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- See Max Vasmer's dictionary on Sergei Starostin's website.[1] The word is found in The Lay of Igor's Campaign. --Ghirla-трёп- 18:06, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
