Superscript "m"

[edit]

Could someone please tell me what the "m" in 53mFe signifies?

Thanks, Nick Beeson (talk) 15:38, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

I just saw this question from 3 years ago. m = metastable = a long-lived excited state. See Nuclear isomer#Metastable isomers. And yes, this really should be explained with the table, in this article and in all the articles Isotopes of element X. Dirac66 (talk) 20:00, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Iron-56

[edit]

This section is to discuss whether Iron-56 should be merged into this article--Robert Treat (talk) 00:56, 21 August 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Iron-57m

[edit]

The article mentions that Fe-57 is used in Mossbauer spectroscopy. Should the table of iron isotopes not include the Fe-57m state which is the upper energy level of the Mossbauer gamma-ray emission? Dirac66 (talk) 20:06, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
