Islamic golden age never existed.
[edit]This is just continuation of Persian works of arts and science. What did Islam contribute to it? Atleast, we need to include this quote Muslim philosopher Ibn Khaldun seems to remark:
Thus the founders of grammar were Sibawaih and after him, al-Farisi and Az-Zajjaj. All of them were of Persian descent… they invented rules of (Arabic) grammar … great jurists were Persians … only the Persians engaged in the task of preserving knowledge and writing systematic scholarly works. Thus the truth of the statement of the prophet becomes apparent, 'If learning were suspended in the highest parts of heaven the Persians would attain it' … The intellectual sciences were also the preserve of the Persians, left alone by the Arabs, who did not cultivate them … as was the case with all crafts … This situation continued in the cities as long as the Persians and Persian countries, Iraq, Khorasan and Transoxiana [=modern Central Asia], retained their sedentary culture.

- Usually Wikipedia editors from the West demand tons of evidence or reliable sources except when it comes to Islam, suddenly they are silent, anything written by some religious nut during the "golden age" is valid Stianwick (talk) 19:38, 5 July 2024 (UTC)

New addition to "Natural Sciences" Section - Hydrology
[edit]Hey everyone, I'm considering adding an additional sub-section to Natural Sciences dealing with the developments on hydrology and water systems. (i.e. emergence of water rights, expansion upon existing Roman systems, & the work of inventers such as Ismail al-Jazari.) I wanted to start this thread in case anyone had any objections or thought on the topic before I launched into more in-depth research. Kermitdawormit (talk) 16:54, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
- I don't think there will be any objections to that. I see that you're a new editor, so of course make sure to follow Wikipedia's core content policies as best you can (in particular, include clear citations to good sources). Another quick tip: have a look also at Science in the medieval Islamic world and Arab Agricultural Revolution. You may find that some parts of the topic are already covered there, and that might influence what you think is most useful to cover here (and you can also link to those articles). In any case, happy editing. R Prazeres (talk) 18:43, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
Infobox
[edit]Just a comment in case this comes up again: the recent removal of the old infobox ([1]) is clearly warranted. A "historical era infobox" is unhelpful for this topic, since what is described here is more of a general concept with varying definitions rather than a well-defined period. The concept is not illuminated by an infobox that hints at one of those definitions while the lead itself explains this briefly but more clearly. Most of all, the unreasonably long collection of links to dynasties, rulers, etc is very unhelpful and arbitrary, ignores even the timeline that was in the infobox itself, and more importantly ignores the purpose of an infobox: summarizing the article, which in this case, rightfully, does not go over any such list. Readers are much better off without this. R Prazeres (talk) 08:06, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
ambiguous quote
[edit]The article contains the quotation "the available evidence is consistent with the hypothesis that an increase in the political power of these elites caused the observed decline in scientific output." The article does not identify what "these elites" refers to which is critical to understanding the quoted passage. 2001:569:FD5E:2A00:5196:6516:EDBF:2616 (talk) 07:26, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
