Better population estimate sources

[edit]

None of the sources cited in the article support the population estimates given (and the sources don't look reliable), so I've been looking for better ones. An official Norwegian source gives a figure of 132,316. The US State Department gives figures of 210,000 for Denmark and 450,000-500,000 for Sweden. Overlap?

[edit]

Is this article really needed? It seems the usual format is (religion) in (Country), and there's already Islam in Denmark, Islam in Sweden, Islam in Norway, and Islam in Iceland. Holy islamic state of the Germanic Nation, what was your reasoning here? Howicus (Did I mess up?) 14:59, 10 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

To add to that, up a level we also have Islam in Europe. Cordless Larry (talk) 15:09, 10 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure of the need, either, but there are reviews that look at the bloc of countries together. Although this book says the reactions to Muslims has been different in Denmark compared to Sweden and that the population origin of Muslims in Norway is different than Sweden and Denmark.[1]-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 01:05, 11 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Even if we accept that an article on Islam in Scandinavia has some value, the further question for me is whether anyone will work on it. The article was created by a new editor who is now blocked for edit warring, and who hasn't shown much concern for accurate sourcing. Sure, a committed editor could write a good article on this topic, but for me that's not a reason for keeping a very brief stub in the meantime. I proposed the article for deletion, but the PROD was removed by AccidentRecorder as having a POV rationale. I'm not sure what this POV is supposed to be. Perhaps I didn't phrase the nomination very well, but never mind - perhaps the article should be kept regardless of how detailed it is and the fact that it overlaps with others. Cordless Larry (talk) 16:19, 12 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Anybody can contest a PROD, so that's fine. The question is if this article that started out as a POVFORK will reasonably be expanded with material that might as well be included in the 3-4 country articles already in § See also and mentioned above by Howicus. An alternative to deletion could be a DAB page pointing to the 3-4 articles. A disambiguation page would be fine. I just doubt that anyone will contribute to a standalone article, given that Islam in Sweden, etc. aren't that well maintained as it is. If someone comes along who will put the work in, then whatever we choose to do, then it's obviously without prejudice to recreation of the article. Cordless Larry (talk) 21:29, 12 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • I support disambiguation page [1] indicates that there isnt anything as a "whole" that Islam and the three countries have in common other than that they are mostly immigrants. Norway's population is from different locations that Denmark's and Sweden's and the reaction in Sweden is different than reaction in Denmark. So an article about "Islam in Scandinavia" it mushing unlike things together. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 00:18, 13 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Judaism in Scandinavia

[edit]

The same editor that created this article has now created Judaism in Scandinavia, with some of the same issues (including the map of Viking settlements, unsourced population estimates). Cordless Larry (talk) 06:49, 13 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
