Honorary degrees?

[edit]

Unsure if both the Doctor of Divinity and Doctor of Laws are honorary degrees. The phrase used for his Doctor of Divinity was "During Mr. Joyce's last year at Lafayette...conferred upon him by Dickinson College" and the phrase used for his Doctor of Laws was "given him by the University of the Pacific" (sic). Both phrases lend to the theory that the degrees were honorary, however, the usage of "D.D." as a suffix was used in a few citations I looked at, which is somewhat suggestive of the legitimacy of the former. The source for both phrases ("The Life Of Isaac Wilson Joyce", pages 49-50): link. --Engineerchange (talk) 13:39, 11 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
