Completing the trilogy of reviews, I'll take this on. If I don't have comments here by this time next week, ping me. --ProtoDrake (talk) 21:07, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Review

[edit]

There isn't as much here as with the previous two Iron Soldier articles.

Gameplay
  • "Two players can play single-player missions in co-op; one player controls the weapon systems while the other player steers the mech." - I know there's no good way of phrasing this, but could the word "play" be reduced somehow?
 Done -- Roberth Martinez (talk) 15:31, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • Actually, that's a more general point. It's a game, so I don't see the need to emphasise "player" so much. Unless there's an AI-controlled mode?
Done -- No, there is no CPU assist mode in the game. Roberth Martinez (talk) 15:31, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Development
  • "The staff wanted to preserve, but not break, the core gameplay they had created on the Jaguar, which led to the addition of walker mechs with more speed" - This sentence reads strangely, considering they seem to be talking about adding to the gameplay.
Done -- I now explained it fully. The team added the walker mechs to counter criticisms that the game moved slowly. Roberth Martinez (talk) 16:00, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Rosocha explained that Eclipse was close to reach an agreement with Sony to publish the game as a first-party title" - Did you mean "close to reaching" here?
 Done -- Roberth Martinez (talk) 15:43, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Release
  • "however Marc Rosocha declined the offer due to the proposal to make it faster and allow mechs to fly." - Did the Japanese publisher want the changes? It's inferrable, but not clear.
Done -- i clarified that it was the publisher's proposal. Roberth Martinez (talk) 15:43, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • No need to link the Nuon or VM Labs here, since they're already linked in Development.
 Done -- Roberth Martinez (talk) 15:43, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Similarly, no need to give Rosocha's full name in Release as it was given in Development.
 Done -- Roberth Martinez (talk) 15:43, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Any info on when Eclipse shut down? If it shut down? The lead talks about Rosocha moving on, but not the text itself.
That is a good question that i tried looking for but to no avail. From the Nuon interview, what i can understand is that Rosocha moved on from making games with his own company after Iron Soldier 3. I now explained it a bit more in depth. Roberth Martinez (talk) 16:28, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@KGRAMR: That's all that stood out to me. --ProtoDrake (talk) 08:57, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@ProtoDrake:Done with the first pass! Let me know if there are any lingering details waiting to be addressed. Roberth Martinez (talk) 16:28, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, next part, the references, content and usage.

  • "Gerhard Seiler served as lead programmer, with Maik Guntermann providing additional coding.[20][19]" - Refs wrong way round.
 Done -- Issue corrected. Roberth Martinez (talk) 00:13, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Eclipse eschewed software tool libraries provided by Sony and instead relied on directly programming its own routines for the PlayStation hardware to ensure high performance and better visual quality, avoiding texture warping and clipping errors.[7][8][14] The game's engine, which Rosocha compared to Twisted Metal and Vigilante 8, allowed for special effects not commonly seen on PlayStation, such as lighting and shadows on buildings, as well as weather effects.[7][8][14]" - Why use the same sequence of refs back to back?
 Done -- Issue corrected. Roberth Martinez (talk) 00:13, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Is yAronet! reliable? It's a forum, and there's a real question mark over that.
I will consider it situational just in this case. The reason why i used the yAronet! was because the interview was done by Guillaume "Arethius" Dupré, who runs a retro gaming fest called Retro-gaming Connexion in France and has also written for the French magazine ReVival. That and it provides context as to how Johannes joined the IS3 project. Roberth Martinez (talk) 00:57, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Prior to the Internet Archive takedown, the last time i checked the archived AllGame review was working perfectly fine and without issues. I legit do not know how to deactivate Javascript on Firefox to see the page once again. Roberth Martinez (talk) 00:37, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • For the MyAtari interview in Ref 13, the original is preferred. Here's the original archived. Better used than a forum post (Also the forum post is just a duplicate of Ref 22, which is this same link)
Wait... is it The Helper forum or the MyAtari link? I replaced the MyAtari link with the link you suggested. Roberth Martinez (talk) 00:27, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@KGRAMR:, that's all on the refs. Fix these up, or confirm my questions, and it should be good to go. --ProtoDrake (talk) 22:24, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@ProtoDrake:Second pass done! Ping me once you come with any other inquiry. Roberth Martinez (talk) 00:58, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@KGRAMR: Sorry, it was conveyed poorly, but I meant that the forum post on TheHelper was a duplicate of the MyAtari interview, so the forum version could be disposed of. I went ahead and did it. Aside from that, I think the article is now good for a Pass. --ProtoDrake (talk) 07:57, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ProtoDrake:Ah OK! But i did a double check with the MyAtari link and The Helper interview. The only thing taken from MyAtari in The Helper interview was the brief mention of Native II. As the MyAtari interview does not have all the other details mentioned by Johannes and Rosocha is not interviewed at all in the MyAtari interview. Not to dispute or anything, just something worth noting. Thank you once again for taking the time to review the article! Roberth Martinez (talk) 11:44, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@KGRAMR: I see. For safety's sake, I've restored that. But please double-check. If it's actually confirmed to be from the original developers, that's okay. I don't have the context to judge in this case. I just have a wariness of using forums and things like otherwise-unattested Reddit AMAs for example. Pass still stands, but just something to keep in mind. --ProtoDrake (talk) 13:06, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ProtoDrake:I did a double-check once again to make sure The Helper interview is an original work and not a copy from other interviews listed in the article. To resume and ease your worries in this case: The Helper interviewer did a resume regarding questions made by MyAtari and Arethius regarding Natve/Sturmwind. It just so happen to be that Johannes became involved with IS3 when asking for a Nuon dev kit with his brother Roland. I also checked the Retro Gamer interview to see if any of the text in the IS article was also found in The Helper interview and came to the conclusion that the questions and answers in said Helper interview with Marc Rosocha is original material not found in the magazine references. I hope that helps! Roberth Martinez (talk) 16:01, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
