Iron Gate of Alexander and Schiltberger?

[edit]

Based on the little information given both in this article and the Hakluyt Society's publication of The Bondage and Travels of Johann Schiltberger, it seems to me that this is the pass through which Alexander and his army traveled in 328 B.C. and through which Johann Schiltberger describes Tamerlane bringing his men, being half a day's march in total darkness, for the valley does not admit the light of day, on his quest to conquer "Lesser India".
