Who was/is President of the association and when?

[edit]

There's not much info easy to find on the web about the last few years history of the Iraqi Bar Association, and it seems like several newspapers have decided to try a literal translation of the name of the organisation in Arabic rather than making some elementary checks on what the organisation calls itself in English, e.g. as a member of the International Bar Association. If the IraqiBA does actually get its website up and running beyond an "under construction" notice, then maybe they'll give the e-world a bit more detail. "Head" and "leader" generally sound like they should translate to "President".

In any case, in the initial draft, i've avoided stating things like "became President" or "was elected President" or "was replaced by" because the only info we really have is who was apparently president/leader/chairman/head at various points of time. All sorts of possible scenarios, including elections which were not at regular 3-year intervals, confusion on who was the president (and board or board council) because of government interference, etc. etc. This is why the language sounds a little bit odd with "So and so was president at time X and Such and such was president at time Y", but i don't see any alternative consistent with the evidence.
