Tajik

[edit]

Tajik is a dialect of Persian and it is not considered a separate language.--Inuit18 (talk) 21:21, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've studied both Persian and Tajik, so I understand where you are coming from, but if Tajik is going to be considered a dialect of Persian, then that should be decided on the Tajik language page and by linguists. If wikipedian editors decided collectively that Tajik is a dialect of Persian, than that decision should first be reflected on the Tajik language page and then systematically changed across the entire wikipedia site. For an individual wikipedia editor decide that a "language", and Tajik is defined by linguists in Tajikistan and across the world as a "language" (though I'm sure there are many dissenters), is now a "dialect", is not only a violation of wikipedia's NPOV editorial rule, it's just plain silly. A recent edit of this page, made by a user named "Tajik", actually had a redirect link that look like this "Tajik language|Tajik dialect". If the page you are redirecting to says "Language", then so should the link itself! Like I said above, if you want to call Tajik a dialect of Persian, start the debate on the page that says "Tajik language", and while you are at it get a Ph.D in Persian linguistics and write an academic thesis on why this should be the case.
