Deletion
[edit]I dont know why my page would be up for deletion, and what can I change to prevent it from happening? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.209.32.228 (talk) 15:08, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
- Whilst the initial "speedy delete" has been withdrawn, this article is still a potential target for deletion due to the lack of evidence of notability. Articles on Wikipedia, and particularly biographical articles, need to show the notability of their subject by including references from reliable sources which allow readers to verify what has been written. With this particular article, it is quite possible Ip Ching is not notable. Notability is not inherited and being the son of a notable person is not in itself sufficient grounds for inclusion in the encyclopedia. I suggest you compare this article to Yip Man: See how that article tells the reader lots of things about the subject and supports them with references. It also provides links to other Wikipedia articles and Chinese text translations where necessary. Astronaut (talk) 14:21, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
I put this up for speedy deletion again, not knowing it had already been done. This appears to be nothing more than a poorly written biography of an unimportant person, and tha has no place here. Nezzadar (talk) 21:45, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
- I removed the speedy delete as there is an assertion of notability in the article. I removed the Prod because the author appears to dispute it above. --A new name 2008 (talk) 22:03, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Notable students
[edit]This section has come and gone a few times. I know the rules about notability for articles about people but what about notability for people mentioned in articles? Do these people need to be notable? Are references needed? Mtpaley (talk) 18:52, 20 June 2020 (UTC)
- In general, if they are to appear in a list, they must have the same importance/relevance to the subject of the article as they would need in order to be mentioned in the text of the article itself. See WP:LISTBIO and WP:SOURCELIST (and to a lesser extent, Wikipedia:Namechecking). V2Blast (talk) 11:03, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
