Split to NY 81

[edit]

I have proposed a split of this article and that NY 81 get its own article becaus when I clicked on the link to NY 81, I got this article instead! JB82 16:50, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think NY 81 may be I-81. I don't know if NY 81 exists. Any experts on this? --MPD01605 (T / C) 17:15, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And also, it wouldn't really require a split. You'd just go back to the NY 81 page, remove the redirect to I-81, and write the appropriate article. Of course, NY 81 would have to redirect to the appropriate naming convention for New York. --MPD01605 (T / C) 17:18, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
NY 81 does exist - it's a route located in the Capital District. Like has been said, a split isn't necessary since no information on NY 81 is present on the I-81 article. IMHO, whoever created the New York State Route 81Interstate 81 redirect erred in doing so, as the two routes are not the same in any way nor should they be considered the same. --TMF T - C 18:55, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There will be, shortly. JB82 02:07, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I-81 page overhaul

[edit]

This page is kind of a mess like many of the other interstate pages, messy and with information that should be properly divided into its poorly-linked subpages. Inspired by MPD01605's recent overhaul of I-95 I have tried to apply the same format to this page: User:Krimpet/Interstate 81. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions? Krimpet 06:53, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That looks good- much better than it does right now. But do I have any specific suggestions? Not really. I have a few things I'd add into the route description. I'll let you know later (or just do it when the article is replaced). Good job. --MPD T / C 11:53, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've restored some of the info from the notes section to include relavent information that was previously lost. --Mhking 13:14, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I integrated the rest of this info in the article and its sub-articles. I mentioned the wrong-way concurrency in Interstate 81 in Virginia, added I-81E to former Auxiliary Routes (might also want to integrate this section into the I-81 template below it somehow), the part about the bridge is already repeated verbatim at Interstate 81 in New York, and I mentioned the "Miracle Mile" thing in Interstate 81 in Pennsylvania (although it probably needs a cite). long distance mileage sign

[edit]

Note: On I-81's Northern Terminus

[edit]

The northern end of Interstate 81 is at Ontario King's Highway 401 as shown on all maps. This is why I modified the northern end to Highway 401. 74.13.130.228 23:38, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Except it can't end at the 401 because the 401 is a few miles in Canada, and even though the road continues, it is not Interstate 81 once it crosses the border, it is Highway 137. Changing it back. --MPD T / C 23:51, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It says that 401 is the main Ontario freeway connecting Detroit to Montréal, but the actual 401 page notes that until the Gordie Howe Bridge is completed, there's not a direct connection to Detroit. Shouldn't this say Windsor to Montréal? Nn26376 (talk) 06:47, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Truck lanes

[edit]

What is the status of plans for truck lanes on I-81? Aldrich Hanssen (talk) 22:32, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The best thing I could find was from 2014, which said that the project still "remains in jeopardy". (do a quick search for i-81 in this pdf)[1] Devinthepeng (talk) 00:59, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Avenues for improvement

[edit]

For anyone interesting in improving this article:

  • The Route description section should consist of a paragraph or two that summarizes the equivalent section from each of the state-detail sub articles.
  • There should be a History section next that provides an overall summary of the history of the highway. Unlike the RD section, this should really be organized more chronologically. (See U.S. Route 8 for an idea.)
  • No work is needed on the Major intersections section.
  • The Auxiliary routes section should really be a paragraph or two. (See Interstate 96#Related trunklines for an idea.)

Of course, more footnotes are needed overall. Imzadi 1979  00:37, 29 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Southern Extension Of Interstate 81 (Georgia And Florida) ?

[edit]

There were many websites and photos saying that Interstate 81 will be extended from its current southern terminus to the Florida coast. It says in the future I-81 will continue have concurrency with I-40 west and I-75 south all the way to Cartersville, Georgia, then I-81 goes alone and meets I-20 near Villa Rica, Georgia, meets I-85 near LaGrange, Georgia, passing through Columbus, Georgia, and meets I-10 near Tallahassee, Florida all the way to the Florida coast. Is this extension really true in the future?

Two random bloggers saying they want I-81 to be extended doesn't mean it will happen. AFAIK, no Department of Transportation has put forward any plans for such an extension. Bitmapped (talk) 18:34, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The Interstate 3 Talk Page Says That I-40 And I-75 Will Have A Multiplex With I-81, And That Topic Has Been Verified By A Wikipedia Employee 69.1.39.81 (talk) 01:09, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The Wikimedia Foundation does not verify content, and legally can't verify content on Wikipedia. The talk page does not state that I-81 will overlap I-40/I-75. Imzadi 1979  01:27, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
