2012 - Improvements to this page
[edit]I would be interested in starting a conversation about potential improvements to this page. I am mindful that we need consensus on any substantial change and thought it would be appropriate to field some input to begin with.
In particular, the page says next-to-nothing about what Interpal actually does. This is well-documented in third party sources, not least this recent photo story in the Guardian (http://www.guardian.co.uk/global-development/gallery/2011/nov/17/regenerating-gaza-in-pictures)
I would also like to talk about how the negative allegations on the page are weighted.
Very grateful for some initial reactions as to the best way to take this forward in the new year. Thanks!

Restoration of banner
[edit]This charity is listed in the Charities accused of ties to terrorism, which is one of the central lists of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Terrorism. On that basis, acknowledging that the group was not found to have been involved in any actual ties to terrorism, but simply an innocent party falsely accused of ties to terrorism, the article does fall within the "related subjects" part of the project's scope. I can understand that some parties might wish to remove the banner, however. John Carter 23:13, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
I think this is rather overdoing it
[edit]There is a third ivestigation on at the moment and theCC previously found Interpal “had not put in place adequate due diligence and monitoring procedures to be satisfied that these organisations were not promoting terrorist ideologies or activities. Where procedures were in place, they were not sufficient nor fully implemented” (Paragraphs 115-147). I have added this because otherwise the account is not giving a balanced view. Specially Designated Global Terrorist?
[edit]Is Interpal a Specially Designated Global Terrorist or not? The article sounds as if they came out of the investigations fine, yet Interpal is listed as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist on the "Specially Designated Global Terrorist" Wikipedia page. If Interpal is a SDGT, then that should be stated in the introductory paragraph. 76.115.175.177 (talk) 05:53, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
Flagged for neutrality
[edit]Just wanted to let everyone know that I have flagged this article for its lack of neutrality. Feel free to prove me wrong. Rivkid007 (talk) 04:19, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
- Please indicate with specificity the items that are not NPOV. Thanks.--Epeefleche (talk) 04:48, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
- I've removed it. Please read the template usage notes Template:POV. No one needs to prove you wrong. You need to detail the concerns that you have. Sean.hoyland - talk 03:14, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
Work section improvements
[edit]Hi, I was having a look at the 'Work' section of the Interpal page and I feel that the content and format of this section can be improved.
I have worked on this and a draft can be seen here. Here are my thoughts on this:
- Interpal is notable for being the largest charity in the UK providing humanitarian relief to Palestinians, therefore I think it justifiable for the work section to be expanded to reflect this notability. To prevent any expansion becoming unbearably long I thought it a good idea to split the original section in two.
- The first is ‘Mission and Values’ (This title is used in other charity articles so I have used it here but if anyone can think of a more appropriate one please suggest it!) This creates some background information which I think is important and relevant considering Interpal is a significant charity involved in an significant and unstable area.
- NB: This section initially failed to mention that it is because of Interpal’s work in the Middle East that allegations of terrorist financing arose.
- The second section is ‘Work’. This has good information in it which I have added to and improved its layout. This section is now given greater prominence because this is surely the most important part of the article considering that this is what it was founded for.
Do you agree that the suggested edit improves the article while maintaining its neutrality?
Please come to my talk page to let me know what you think! Za'atar94 14:51, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
- I'm supportive of such changes to the article, particularly if it is well cited - I think it will need good cites to survive critical editors. You draft looke fine to me, though two of the cite URLs no longer work so would need updating. That academic paper cite looks useful, though I've not read it yet. NB you can use # at the beginning of the line to get numbered lists in the usual WP style. Rwendland (talk) 13:54, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks Rwendland! I'll ensure the changes are well cited. Also, thanks for letting me know about #/numbers - looks nicer than bullet points all the time! Za'atar94 11:04, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
Israeli declaration as terrorist
[edit]There is a .xls spread sheet document that labels Interpal as a Terrorist Organisation
Today the document was found at the top of a search list so had been at the same address for a while and has the address for download:
www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCEQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mod.gov.il%2FDefence-and-Security%2FFighting_terrorism%2FDocuments%2Fteror16.11.xls&ei=IVh3VJafIdLY7AaT64Eg&usg=AFQjCNHSJezfDIXqsq5ZDKQvirqvGbpKrw&sig2=kdG16H9f1d6BvoJAjsEXhg&bvm=bv.80642063,d.ZGU
I found this information by searching on "הכרזה כארגון טרור לפי פקודת מניעת טרור" and choosing the download link, above, with partial address given by google as: www.mod.gov.il/Defence-and.../teror16.11.xls which had the title "רשימת ההכרזות - משרד הביטחון" which translates as: List of Announcements - Office of security (Ministry of Defence)
