Notability
[edit]I see results on Google News for this award, but it's always a trivial mention, such as "so-and-so won the International Horror Guild Award". Is there third-party coverage of the award itself? I checked a few of the likely places – Fangoria, Dread Central, Bloody Disgusting – and they didn't really seem to offer much coverage at all. That raises the question of whether an award is notable even if its only mentioned in passing. I'm not so sure. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 18:20, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
Even if the award is discontinued, it's not so irrelevant: In [1]; S. T. Joshi and Stefan Dziemianowicz, eds.; Greenwood Press, Westport, CT, USA, 2005, in the entry "Awards" (Vol. 1, page 67), it reads: "The International Horror Guild (IHG) Award is bestowed for 'outstanding achievements in the field of horror and dark fantasy'. Recommendations are taken from the public at large, but a panel of judges determines nominations and the final awards. Its physical award is associated with a figurine or representation of a gargoyle." (...) "For those seeking outstanding works in the field of horror and dark fantasy, the adjudicated awards --WFA and IHG-- and the BFS currently seem to note literary achievement most consistently". And in page 68, continues: "The IHG has, since the formalization of its adjudication, drawn its judges from a very small group of individuals. These individuals have diverse tastes snd are noted for the wide-ranging knowledge of the field and critical abilities, but their small number must be noted. The IHG encourages recommendation from the public at large, but is in no way tied to those received. With no associated writers organization, annual anthology, or convention, the relatively new IHG Awards has yet to establish ongoing credibility." The entry is signed by Paula Guran. Nevertheless the award is defunct and short-lived, so it was the International Fantasy Award, and it merits to be cited and referenced.
