Bishop of Brooklyn
[edit]On Drivetime this afternoon, Philip Boucher Hayes is talking to a fella who's saying the Bishop of Brooklyn (yes, in America!) is Bishop of Inis Cathaigh! How on earth did this happen? 89.101.41.216 (talk) 16:02, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- The answer is relatively simple: Titular bishop. Although the diocese does not exist any more, the title still exists. Bishop Frank Joseph Caggiano is auxiliary bishop (assistant) of Brooklyn. But making him titular bishop of Inis Cathaigh he has the same (church-)rights and powers as the real bishop. The Banner talk 20:38, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- Interesting. Historically, why did this link between Inis Cathaigh and Brooklyn start? 89.101.41.216 (talk) 18:02, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
- I am not aware of any specific relationship between the Diocese of Inis Cathaigh and the place where the present bearer of the title is working. The Banner talk 23:28, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
