“Infospace” needs new redirect, no longer part of Blucora

[edit]

I got here by clicking on a link for “Infospace” in the “Webcrawler” article. This needs to be updated and fixed. Blucora no longer owns Infospace or Metacrawler to my knowledge. I believe both brands were sold off to the company “System1” not too long ago. The domain infospace.com and metacrawler.com both reflect this when clicking on their “About” links. On Infospace.com, their is actually a copyright credit at the bottom of the page linking to System1. Perhaps a separate page for System1 needs to be created, if one does not already exist, and “Infospace” can be redirected to it - although of this writing, the website Infospace.com is once again an active and functional search engine. Infospace is highly notable. I'm not sure what's the best way to address this. Maybe create an Infospace article? --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 16:53, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe change this article into Infospace, and create a stub for Blucora? --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 16:57, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Shortride: What ref are you using for the general description of Blucora? Do you think Blucora deserves anything more than a STUB? --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 17:05, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Looking through the refs, would Blucora better be called a holding company? --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 15:41, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest editing

[edit]

Most of the editing to this article has been done by editors with a conflict of interest. Last I looked, there was very little written about the company, while so much written about Infospace that I wondered if it might be best to create a separate article from the historical Infospace company. --Hipal (talk) 23:47, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That's an excellent idea. Infospace was a far more notable company than Blucora wound up being, in any case. ♟♙ (talk) 23:07, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
How do we go about splitting it off? The current Infospace is just a redirect to this article. EDIT: It seems InfoSpace was sold off to another company in 2016, so it should definitely be split [1] ♟♙ (talk) 23:11, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Good catch with the sale.
I don't recall seeing this done in the past, so I'll start by asking for help at WT:COMPANIES. --Hipal (talk) 00:01, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The discussion at the project talk never seemed to go anywhere, so I'm going to be bold and do what I think is right. Bluecora doesn't seem especially notable to me apart from being a renamed version of the old shell of InfoSpace, so I plan to move this back to InfoSpace and trim the stuff about Blucora to a bare minimum allowing readers to understand the somewhat convoluted history. But the notable subject is pretty clearly InfoSpace. And then I think we can do away with the COI tag that's been languishing since 2012. ♟♙ (talk) 23:06, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
