Remove redirect on main article?[edit]

Indicator light is a generic term that is used in many fields of engineering and is not just related to automobiles. (see, e.g., the link here from Pearson–Anson effect, referring to lights on appliances)

History[edit]

It appears that through a chain of page moves this page once referred to something far more specific... as of early June 2024, it redirects to Check engine light. That in itself seems strange, since a better automobile-related target would seemingly be something such as Tell-tale (automotive).

Discussion[edit]

Whether or not this deserves to be a 'standalone' page is another question; perhaps it only rates a disambiguation page. I'm going to mark it with '{{R with possibilities}}' and {{R printworthy}} templates for now.

A {{Wiktionary redirect}} might also be appropriate, but there isn't currently a direct entry (but many promising search results; perhaps that's a good outcome itself...)? Wiktionary redirect

Summary[edit]

If someone is willing to write a basic article for Indicator light, please do so (considering, of course, any reply comments that may exist here)

Any new article should probably include a 'See also'-type hatnote (or more properly a wikilink within the lead section of a future new article), out of respect for any pages that currently link here (from either Wikipedia or from the wider Web) but semantically are referring to the content of the Check engine light article.

All sorts of comments[edit]

I removed all of the bulky comments from the article. They are, of course, preserved in the article history. — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 08:57, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
