Page Move

[edit]

I moved the page without discussion because I did not perceive that there could be any dispute on this issue. There are multiple exams by the name of JEE, so it's standard practice to give each its own page and disambiguate. And you'll also see that disambiguations are not required to have all blue links, or even all links. Page moves don't require prior discussion unless they are disputed. In any case, in case of multiple entries disambiguation is a must. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Loom91 (talkcontribs) 6:06, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Coaching Revenue Estimate

[edit]

the total number of test takers for iit jee is less than 300,000. if the coaching market is valued at rs.5000 crores (a year?) it means that the average expenditure per candidate is more than rs.1.67 lakhs. no coaching institute charges this much fee - the highest fee may be about rs. 1 lakh and there are many smaller operations that charge maybe 10k or 20k and there are even thousands of test takers who do without any special paid coaching. so the average expenditure per candidate cannot be rs. 1.67 lakhs. the total coaching market for iit jee and training for other such exams like gate, cat etc may all add up to rs. 5000 crores a year but jee coaching alone is not that big. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Iitmsriram (talkcontribs) 15:15, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spam

[edit]

Removed opportunistic link to some random, i.e. unofficial JEE 2012 discussion blog. It was not a reference or a citation. Can we make sure that this kind of spam stays off the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.237.156.183 (talk) 14:59, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification for JEE-2007

[edit]

Having written JEE 2007, I can tell you that the 'discrepancy' in the numbers is because the JEEs started the declaration of an extended merit list from our year (IIST used the main and extended list as it's only means of admission that year). The extended list covered ranks starting from ~7001 I think. Unsure of that border, but a friend of mine had a rank of ~6900 on the main list. Furthermore, not everyone who qualifies and gets a rank in the main list join the institute. Which is why the final intake will always be lower than the total number of candidates who have qualified in the main list. Furthermore, the number of ranks on the main list is greater than the number of seats available; precisely to hedge against the people that won't join for lack of having got a preferred branch.

Also, as a side note, it's amusing to see this come true: http://xkcd.com/978/ Lazy journalists. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.237.156.183 (talk) 14:59, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ordering of IIT (BHU) Varanasi

[edit]

The ordering of the IITs has been done alphabetically based on the cities used in their name. For IIT (BHU), it is Varanasi, as per its main atticle: Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi. Hence, it should be placed at the bottom of the article, before ISM Dhanbad. I stress, this is strictly alphabetical. Thanks! Anir1uph (talk) 15:06, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Scope and anachronism

[edit]

There's a little confusion about the article's scope, giving us material about names institutions are adopting now, updates on the successor exam (which has its own article already) and discussion of the article subject in the present tense. I'll try to deal with it but there are parts which aren't quite clear to me; in particular, we describe several instances of litigation being launched without any indication of the outcomes. Have any of those completed or been abandoned? NebY (talk) 07:47, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 8 January 2017

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Moved, although using "Main" rather than "Mains".[1]  — Amakuru (talk) 18:45, 16 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

– Basically, just the name of the examinations have changed. The examinations continues to remain the same as they were previously, with the only difference being that now, only those who qualify JEE-Mains (AIEEE) can appear for JEE-Advanced (IIT-JEE). This is a typical case of something's name changing, and so these moves are appropriate. At present, there is an undesirable scope overlap between the Joint Entrance Examination article and these two articles, which can be resolved through these moves. The Joint Entrance Examination article can be retained as a master article - the sections on JEE Mains and JEE Advanced in that can then be tagged with {{main}}, pointing to the above articles. 103.6.159.93 (talk) 09:04, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
