Peri-implantitis
[edit]peri-implantitis would mean inflammation of the implant!! What that does that mean? At the most it could be inflammation of the bone or the soft tissues that cover it, including periosteum. BDB 17:04, 17 September 2005 (UTC)
- It's inflammation around (peri) the implant. JFW | T@lk 17:08, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
- I understand what you are trying to convey. But I felt, and still feel the usage of the term is not appropriate. Could you pleasecite a reference? BDB 18:16, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
- When searching pubmed, the term per-implantitis seems to be in use but almost exclusively for dental implants. --WS 13:48, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
Merge with prosthesis
[edit]I'm removing {{merge|prosthesis}} - Not all medical implants are prostheses. ~ Booyabazooka 19:32, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
Possible Sections to Improve
[edit]Overall, I believe that the "Implant (medicine)" article has to be updated to incorporate information, such as the FDA classification of medical devices since implants fall under medical devices. The improvements that I would like to make pertain to the section: Complications. I would like to further expand on the human body response to implants as well as considerations that biomedical engineers and manufacturers have to take into consider when choosing the proper materials for implants.
