Split of the page Identity Management
[edit]This page is the result of the split of the page: Identity management which objective was to separate more explicitly the technical aspects of identity management. --Nabeth (talk) 14:22, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
Tried to separate confusion between directoy services and Identity Management, my edit will probably please no one. The concept of Organizational Unit (OU) from standards x.500 and x.400 (LDAP) are key to forerunner UNIX and Netware Directory Services in definition of users and objects and permissions assigned to those. Microsoft Active Directory is a proprietary subset of an Identity Management Systems, cataloging permissions like in earlier versions of Windows NT Server and Unix operating systems. Identity Management concept goes beyond a permissions list to multisystem and multiapplication authentication. Also added eDirectory; not just Netware but Zenworks (nee Client32) functionality included in SUSE Linux which contrary to Linux fanboys is one of the key commercial Linux distributions (used in IBM et al Point of Sales systems). Alas I forgot IBM Tivoli Identity Manager. Shjacks45 (talk) 18:19, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
Merge this article back in again with Identity Management
[edit]I am proposing the technical aspects described above in 2013 can be a section in the Identity Management article. Unless someone objects I will start moving content over to Identity Management starting in a few weeks Alex Jackl (talk) 15:02, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
- I clearly did not get to this. I will take on, as work allows, to make some movement on this over the early months of this year! Alex Jackl (talk) 15:39, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
