The result of the move request was: moved to "Ian Murray (footballer)". DrKiernan (talk) 16:13, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Ian Murray → Ian Murray (football) — As we now have an MP of this name I question whether we can treat the footballer as the primary meaning, I am not sure that he was even before this election. PatGallacher (talk) 18:20, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
Although I suspect this move could prove fairly non-controversial, a user has jumped the gun and carried out a cut-and-paste move. Any thoughts on how to proceed? PatGallacher (talk) 20:23, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
- A cut and paste move of the disambiguation page was made. The full edit history of the Ian Murray (footballer) article is present, which means there is not a problem. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 20:37, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
I'm not disputing that, but the cut and paste move of Ian Murray (disambiguation) was still not good practice. PatGallacher (talk) 20:44, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
Comment Ian Murray (footballer) rather than (football) would be the preferred disambiguator, per WP:QUALIFIER, which says "The disambiguator is usually a noun indicating what the person is noted for being" (my highlighting). Re the cut-paste move of the dab page, might I suggest the template {{copied}} be applied to the relevant talk pages to clarify what was cut-pasted and where the edit history can be found. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 21:40, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
