"Health reasons"
[edit]Please looks at the sourcing it isnt indicating direct quotes as the words for the health matters are varying and the inverted commas remain to indicate scepticism.RafikiSykes (talk) 16:05, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
- This is your interpretation, and therefore original research. It is not for us to try and read between the lines, if reliable sources don't actually say that he resigned for reasons other than health this article shouldn't either. January (talk) 17:09, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
- He clearly does have health problems. He has had heart bypass surgery, [1], and he'd been admitted to hospital three times in six months before he stood down [2]. January (talk) 08:06, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- It reflect coverage though news coverage mentions how soon after his expenses came out he resigned compared with his 2005 heart surgery.RafikiSykes (talk) 14:12, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

- Those sources are just noting the heart surgery, I can't see how they're comparing it to anything. January (talk) 14:45, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

- That's not a comparison. January (talk) 18:23, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- Whatever news source is concerned, mention of his leaving is accompanied by the mention of his expenses eg bbc http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8065113.stm RafikiSykes (talk) 14:43, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- Former Labour government minister Ian McCartney said he would be standing down from parliament for health reasons.
- -- A party spokeswoman said the decision had nothing to do with expenses and McCartney had not been forced to go. But the MP's move came days after he announced he had voluntarily repaid 15,000 pounds of expenses in 2008 for refurbishing his second home after the rules were tightened
- Reuters casualites of the expenses scandal
- None of them are offering evidence that his statement that he resigned for health reasons is false. I don't think that could even be called speculation as there's no explicit suggestion. I'm not seeing evidence or even a credible suggestion in a reliable source. January (talk) 17:29, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
New edits which restored most of the disputed material
[edit]An IP restored much of the material previously removed in this discussion, apparently on the basis that the editor involved in the BLPN discussion has recently received a short block in relation to another article. That is a completely separate matter and is in no way relevant to their edits here. Also some of this material was removed by myself, not the blocked editor, over concerns on the relability of the sources and synthesis (particularly the quote from Gary North/Lew Rockwell which an earlier RSN discussion agreed was not generally a reliable source).
Unfortunately some of my intended edit summary for my revert was lost, but I wanted to say in it that I would like to invite the IP to discuss if they think there is material that should be restored/included, and I'm happy to seek fresh opinions at BLPN if appropriate.
