Cartridge
[edit]The IOF ".315 inch Sporting" cartridge is identical to the 8mmx50R Mannlicher cartridge as used by Austria-Hungary, etc.
The British gunmakers BSA produced Lee-Enfield based sporting rifles chambered for the 8mmx50R Mannlicher from the 1920s at least, specifically for the Indian trade. As a non-British military cartridge it avoided any issues with the ban on sporting use of British military cartridges in Imperial India.
