88th and 89th Reconnaissance Training Wings
[edit]Dear Lineagegeek, these wings (incl 89 CCTW) are an anomaly, with no entry in Maurer, Combat Units. Do you have lineage data for them? Buckshot06 (talk) 06:48, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
- Actually, Maurer was consistent in omitting wings that had Training in their designations, unless (like the listed Bombardment Training Wings/Bombardment Operational Training Wings) they also had an active period without the Training adjective. In addition to the 88th and 89th, that includes the 22d Bombardment Training Wing, 23rd Bombardment Training Wing, 46th Bombardment Training Wing/Bombardment Operational Training Wing, 48th Bombardment Operational Training Wing/Staging Wing, and 56th Bombardment Training Wing/Combat Crew Training Wing.
- The 88th was at Key Field under III Recon Cd for its entire existence (disbanded 20 December 1943)
- The 89th was at Will Rogers Field until redesignated Combat Crew Training Wing on 12 June 1944, moved on paper to MacDill Field, was at Drew Field from July 1944 to August 1945, moved back to MacDill, where it was inactivated on 8 April 1946(?), disbanded on 8 October 1948. Later assignments to III Bomber Command, Third Air Force, Fifteenth Air Force. --Lineagegeek (talk) 15:55, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
- Thankyou - good start. There's very thin data on what units were assigned to the 88th and 89th Wings past the 8th Photographic Reconnaissance Group and Coffeyville Army Air Field (last to HQ RTW (Prov)). Have you any shortcuts? Buckshot06 (talk) 08:27, 19 February 2022 (UTC)
