Origin of code
[edit]Does anyone know why "IG" was chosen as the code for this area, given that there is no "G" in "Ilford"? That's a piece of information that ought to be included in the article. --RFBailey 10:32, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- I always assumed it's from Ingatestone. It's one of several examples where the postcode is not derived from the town to which it relates - another is FY (Fylde) for Blackpool. G7mzh (talk) 15:20, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
- Except Ingatestone is in CM4, so that doesn't seem logical either. This will probably remain one of life's mysteries. Bazonka (talk) 23:03, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
- I believe it is the first and last letters of Ilford and Barking... --TBM10 (talk) 19:12, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

IG3 and Chigwell
[edit]I'm calling into question that any part of IG3 covers Chigwell. It isn't even adjacent to IG7 which is Chigwell Village's area.
IG11 and E6
[edit]The article on E6 says that it covers part of LB Barking & Dagenham, but as far as I can see that is a tiny section at the A406/A124 roundabout. Conversely, there is a fairly large chunk of IG11 in Newham, but that doesn't get mentioned. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.232.34.78 (talk) 14:09, 29 October 2016 (UTC) 'Bold text'81.109.87.33 (talk) 19:47, 4 May 2018 (UTC)Bold text81.109.87.33 (talk) 19:47, 4 May 2018 (UTC)'
