comment on name
[edit]Hwiltsum is the band's version of the spelling of what was historically rendered as Lamalcha or Lamalchi...I think. or maybe that's the name of the village on Kuper. It's because of the history and fame of the Lamalcha War I went with this "anglicism" instead of my usual respect for the modern spellings/brandings.
cite req re Royal Navy defeat
[edit]I just had a look in googlebooks and amazon, I can't find the title of locally-published history entitled "The Lamalcha War" that that was on the backcover of; it was in a BC Ferries bookshop I was browsing on one Swartz Bay-Tsawwassen run. I'd have thought it would be listed online somewhere, otherwise would have used it as a cite in the first place. Not like the RN would admit to the defeat, but that was the author in question's claim/contention. Hard to think of any other RN engagements between the 1860s and the end of the century, much less any defeats.Skookum1 (talk) 03:15, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
sources for expansion
[edit]The bit about the defeat of the Royal Navy is in this collection of links, which I'm just dropping without formatting for now as I have to go out, will return later to put them in the articles either as cites or as Further readings.....interestingly the Sun's editorial (which sounds like it was mostly written by Stephen Hume rather than the paper's usually corporatist anti-native bias) seems to take their side, though raises the property-owner red flag that is in the islands property site
