Known Unpublished Works

[edit]

Hey what do you kids think about a section of "Known Unpublished Works"? Entries would have to be well-sourced of course... Any thoughts? Ok! 19:33, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea, things like Prince Jellyfish should go in that section. GhostPirate 13:51, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Added it, plus the SF examiner articles (all the ones I could find, anyway). GhostPirate 17:00, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nice work on the Examiner articles. I took out The Johnson File from the Known Unpublished Works section, because it sounds like it was never actually written. Hope that is cool. I also added a few works that Brinkley has been talking about. I also added the Night Manager. Brinkley seemed to say that it was indeed a separate work from Polo Is My Life. 216.67.155.40 15:39, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty certain that "The Joint Chiefs / Death of the American Dream" should be removed from the list of Unpublished Works. The concept of the book evolved to become "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," which is why letters concerning the concept were included in "Fear and Loathing in America." It was never a separate story. Edit: After further research, I understand that the "Joint Chiefs/ Death of the American Dream" book was indeed a separate book from "Fear and Loathing," as stated by Thompson himself. 02:32, 17 October 2007 Soulfetishdeux 02:33, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Updates

[edit]

I have updated/edited a lot of this article. Please verify my citation information. I would also like to see this bibliography become an annotated bibliography. Alot of the information that I added, revised is due to my manic research last summer compiling a bibliography of Hunter S. Thompson. The resulting compilation is listed in the sources: Hunter S. Thompson : A Bibliography. Jparha2 02:37, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am Joel Parham (formerly user Jparha2), the author of Hunter S. Thompson: A Bibliography (2006) and I would like to include a link to the original self-published publication. Is there a particular method that is standard for linking to an external source? Can I just add an external link for this source and include a link to a Google Drive or Dropbox file? What we still need... (Please add to this section)

Articles Section

[edit]

Here is a list of articles that are probably out there somewhere, but will likely take some serious work to find. You can see more information at the Hunter S. Thompson Page.

  • Articles from the Command Courier -- 1956 through 1958
If it is of any help, I believe this publication was a military base newspaper from his service in Florida. Don't quote me on this, but I believe reading this somewhere Jparha2 21:14, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Articles from the Playground News -- 1957
  • Articles from the Middletown Daily Record - 1959/1960
  • Freelance Articles from Puerto Rico -- 1960. His letters from this time period seemed to suggest that he wrote a number of freelance articles to daily state-side papers while he was in San Juan.
  • Articles from the Brazil Herald -- Spring 1963

Fair use rationale for Image:GONZO Photographs.jpg

[edit]

Image:GONZO Photographs.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Image

[edit]

The image of him is a drawing and not by someone who is relevant to his life. It is a fan picture. Do we have anything better? Even one of Steadman's works would be more appropriate. 75.131.78.13 (talk) 05:10, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That picture just sucks. Someone's got to have something better. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.50.4.4 (talk) 19:00, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Mutineer

[edit]

Despite its having been issued an ISBN, I can find no evidence that The Mutineer ever actually existed; indeed, after a full eight years of pretending that my preorder for said volume would be fulfilled within six months, Amazon has just today sent me an email informing me that, with regret, they will not be able to obtain the item at all and are canceling my order, apologies for the inconvenience, etc., etc. I fear it's destined to become one of those legendary a-friend-of-a-friend-had-one-I-swear items that crop up now and then in American popular culture. (Anyone remember the "Gloria Baker and Shark" M.A.S.K. toy? Of course you don't, Kenner never made one, but we all knew some guy who swore he had a cousin who knew someone who had one. :)

As such, I'm skeptical of its inclusion on this page, but not so skeptical as to take unilateral action to remove it.
