Igbo was not cannibal and they don't even try it but I surprised seeing Igbo cannibalism here. Please correct it.

Thanks Onyema Echi

Strange use of Jared Diamond

[edit]

The author is mentioned a few times in the "Gastronomic and functionalist explanations" section, and I feel like it stands to be cut. He's not exactly seen as legitimate and well researched in the field of anthropology, and the only contribution he makes here is unsourced conjecture, which goes against the NOR policy of wikipedia. Not to mention, the later comparison of Diamond (Author, not Anthropologist) to Marvin Harris (Anthropologist) and Marshall Sahlins (Anthropologist) goes against the NPOV as well. His inclusion just seems a bit stilted? Maybe I'm nuts, would like to hear others thoughts on this. -Olaus OlausWorm (talk) 05:24, 26 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't add the original Diamond reference, but I see no problem with it. I know that some anthropologist don't like him very much, but my impression is that that's largely professional jealousy – they don't like him because he's more widely read than they. A broad suggestion like that is always going to be a conjecture, neither definitely provable nor refutable. But that doesn't make it worthless. And the later mention, sourced to Lindenbaum, implicitly references other anthropologists who held the same view – Lindenbaum cites them explicitly (Dornstreich & Morren 1974), but we don't give such details, since we can only provide a summary.
