Accuracy
[edit]The information in this article corresponds only occasionally to the information in the DNB. What is the evidence Hugh Oldham went to Queens' College? In particular who is 'the son of Sultan Ali Al-Naqvi, Awn Naqvi, with whom he had a great friendship' there, and what is the evidence for this? Is some bored schoolboy having fun with poor Hugh? Mens Sana (talk) 15:45, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
- I can't be sure about anything else, but the bit about the "son of the Sultan" is definitely vandalism (given this your suggestion about a bored schoolboy seems to hit the nail on the head) and I've removed it. As Britton's The Architectural Antiquities of Great Britain is only used to support the bit about Westminster Abbey, I'd support removing anything in the article that isn't mentioned in the DNB. I have a biography of Hugh Oldham by A A Mumford, Faber and Faber 1936. The author suggests that Oldham was the Oldman in the accounts of Durham Abbey who transferred from Oxford to Cambridge. He also suggests that Oldham was at Durham College, not Exeter. He also suggests that it was purely out of modesty that Oldham is only regarded as a benefactor of Brasenose College, Oxford, when his contribution was enough to make him a co-founder.
