Lowe did not determine that Napoleon would reside at Longwood

[edit]

I've removed this sentence from the text: "Certainly, his choice of Longwood as an estate was a good one for security but a miserable one for Napoleon's mental and physical health. "

Lowe did not make the decision that Napoleon would reside at Longwood. That decision was made long before Lowe's arrival on the island by Lowe's predecessor.

As for the other claim made, that Longwood was hard on Napoleon's health, it may be true, but certainly requires citation support and further discussion as to why it may have been so.

Needs revision with neutral viewpoint

[edit]

I think this article needs to be revised. It incorporates the negative opinions of the 1911 Britannica but not some of the explanations. So it seems biased against Lowe. It lacks references to back up some of the negative statements.

Apparently, Gregory's "Napoleon's Jailer: Lt. Gen. Sir Hudson Lowe: A Life" attempts to set the record straight but none of that has found its way into the article. It cites Gregory that Lowe married the widow of "Colonel William Johnson" but I can't determine the identity of her first husband. Humphrey Tribble (talk) 01:55, 4 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
