The Howard Staunton Memorial Tournament took place in 1951 in London (1. Gligorić 10, Pirc, Stahlberg, Trifunović 9½. Alexander, Matanović, Rossolimo, Unzicker 8½, Donner, Klein 7, Bobolyubov 6½, Golombek 6, Broadbent, Tartakower 5½, van Scheltinga, Wade 5). See → W.Litmanowicz, J. Nice find, here is more about it: [1] [2] Voorlandt (talk) 10:14, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It was actually held in Cheltenham, Leamington Spa and Birmingham, as given by Sunnucks (2nd ed., pg 490) - one of those events that wanders around a bit! - not as far as London though. Before that, the 1946 Groningen tournament was effectively a Staunton Memorial also (see Hundert Jahr Schachturniere 1851-1950, Feenstra-Kuiper, p177)- I keep meaning to add these to the article - one day!
