Fair use rationale for Image:Carly Simon - Hotcakes.jpg

[edit]

Image:Carly Simon - Hotcakes.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:05, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Personnel

[edit]

Personnel is lacking; compared to excellent job done on previous album's article. Dogru144 (talk) 02:36, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Best-selling?

[edit]

'Hotcakes became one of Simon's biggest selling albums.' Yeah, how big exactly? One of two, one of five, one of ten or perhaps one of hundred biggest? It's so ambiguous to claim one-of-something like this. Isn't these the so-called weasel words? 82.141.72.71 (talk) 01:25, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"gleamingly white kitchen"

[edit]

Back in 2006, an IP contribution from NYC contained a bunch of unreferenced, flowery, descriptive text along with personal opinions. Here's the text:

"...as well as many other songs that reflected Simon's upbeat beat mood during her pregnancy with her first child. On the album cover, Simon sits in a gleamingly white kitchen, robustly pregnant, smiling brightly and wearing a somewhat bohemian white linen dress. It is a portrait of emancipated, domestic bliss that perfectly matches the album's music. Pop music seldom sounded as intelligent, catchy and playful as this."

I removed much of this stuff, adding instead a summary of the observations made by Bill Schnee in his 2021 book.

After my removal, someone from the Louisiana Delta has been restoring the flowery prose including "gleamingly white kitchen". I don't think it's appropriate. It's unencyclopedic, and its original source was so compromised with violations of WP:No original research. Binksternet (talk) 15:34, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
