[edit]Can someone please delete this, i tried my best to find more sources on this and they just don’t exist.CycoMa (talk) 04:36, 1 September 2021 (UTC)
- @CycoMa: I think I've figured out how the confusion came about. It looks like the Sethian Gnostics, who revered the biblical figure of Seth, thought he had a wife named Orea or Horea, and that the Coulter and Turner source confused the biblical and Gnostic Seth with the Egyptian god. This figure seems to be covered in Wikipedia at Norea, so I think it would be best to blank this page (not delete it) and turn it into a redirect to Norea. A. - I’m honestly fine with either option.CycoMa (talk) 19:22, 1 September 2021 (UTC)
- I have heard of situations like this on Wikipedia where an author of a source misread something but, I must admit I honestly don’t know what to do in situations like this. I believe I might have to do a little more research and see.CycoMa (talk) 19:26, 1 September 2021 (UTC)
- Maybe I should put a hoax tag at the top just in case. Because I do think something like this might need more research and looking into on whether or not this figure was a misinterpretation.CycoMa (talk) 19:45, 1 September 2021 (UTC)
Here’s what I found
So I did some digging deeper and here’s what I found on Horea. I’m gonna number the sources for this part to make things easier to understand.
[(1) This source] on page 32 mentions Horea.
[(2) This source] on page 95 mentions Horea.
[(3) This source] on page 84 mentions Horea.
(3) mentions Horea mentions is another name for Norea. (2) also mentions that Horea has a connection to Orea. So there is a possibility Coulter and Turner misread or misinterpreted a source.CycoMa (talk) 20:08, 1 September 2021 (UTC)
- Source 1 is the work of some self-published Christian polemicist who seems to be recycling ignorant claims about ancient religions that originate with The Two Babylons. His passing mention of "Isis and Horea" could have originated anywhere; it could even be a simple typo for "Isis and Horus". So I wouldn't count it as evidence of anything. The other two sources treat Orea/Horea as variant names of the Gnostic Norea. So that leaves no sources but Coulter and Turner to support the existence of an Egyptian goddess by this name. I think the safest thing to do is turn this article into a redirect to Norea. If somebody finds stronger sourcing for such a goddess, the article can be restored. A. - I’m just gonna sit this one out for a bit and wait for anyone else to join in on this discussion. If nothing is resolved within a few days you can blank this page and turn it into a redirect or Norea.CycoMa (talk) 14:20, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
- I Googled this and only found Wikipedia, mirrors and a source of unknown reliability. I think it should be deleted 2600:1003:B8D8:F0F3:115:38F8:78A7:92E (talk) 16:20, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
- I've turned it into a redirect. A. Parrot (talk) 05:47, 11 September 2021 (UTC)
